VM & BT info

Hi All I want to know something ..I know that BT Infinity service has got rid of the FUP and still throttles p2p at certain times when the network is busy , and everyone moans about them ! but i don,t seem to read much about Virgin Media FUP and there throttling on p2p am i right that VM do the same as BT regarding p2p if so what sort of times do they do this ? :confused:

As far as I know, VM only throttle certain Usenet ports, but not the 443 SSL port. I haven't experienced any speed throttling at all in my downloads (provided I don't exceed the daily limit). They are unlimited, but enforce Traffic Management between certain times on their different speed packages.

For example, between 9am-3pm on their 30MB service, you can download 10GB. And between 4pm-9pm, you can download 5GB. Lower speed packages have lower usage and higher packages have higher or no limit.

Couldn't say really as I haven't had experience with BT Infinity. Most people I know with Infinity use it with newsgroups, so torrents etc aren't really of a concern.

Just get FTTC (infinity) from another provider who don't have a vague usage policy and shape traffic arbitrarily. This may cost actual money. If you aren't prepared to pay for it then VM and BT are broadly as bad as each other...

yeah i think this is right ,but i,ve looked and most have a download limit and are not unlimited like BT & VM plus the cost is crazy ! seems all strange to me !

5 minutes with google will turn up several providers who have a peak (daytime - 8am to 8pm or similar) cap and unlimited overnight and at weekends. Depending how large a daytime cap you need they start from ~£30

If you can live with 2Mbit upload you can get unlimited all day for ~£40 a month...
