ok our vm 20meg connections is stupid, we dont even get 10meg. or 5meg.. or 1meg sometimes.

Now i know the exchange is crowded (students..) but i want to take this further and start hassling VM so need to get my facts straight.

I know nothing of the modem stats meanings so help? I'll post them below:

Loading software..... lists software image..... Invalid image signature..... upgrade fails....

Are you sure you are on 20Mb?? What does it say in the Operational Config section? Should say

Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000

If it says less than 20480000 / 768000 then that could be your issue

post your modem logs and power levels onto the virgim media newsgroup.

news.virginmedia.com (no password it only lets you connect from a virgin ip address)

subscribe to virginmedia.support.broadband.cable all the tech guys on there apear to be english and no what they are talking about

ask them to check utilisation on your UBR aswell if they notice problems they can switch you onto a different channel at the UBR

[snip]

It's showing the modem downloading a software config for an Ambit 250 modem, which is failing because presumably you don't have an Ambit 250. It's normal for configs to be broadcast this way and rejected by modems they're not appropriate for, ignore it.

There's a bit more to it than that. Whether the data rates are shown in the config section depends on which modem you have. The Ambit modems, which I guess yours isn't show the data rates there. Motorolas don't, instead you have to look in the logs for a successful software download and the rates will be in the filename.
