VM Sent me a Virus warning ?

I got an email from virgin media this morning warning me that a device on my network might have something called the citadel trojan virus, Kind of odd seeing as I haven't been anywhere odd or downloaded anything odd.

I checked the emails origin and it is authentic and links on the site point to reputable anti virus companies.

Has anyone else gotten anything like this from VM in the past ?

The built in one in W8.1 *I know heresy*, The funky thing I don't understand is that I haven't been to any weird sites, Just the usual, Here, FB, Linus etc... nothing out of the ordinary :confused:
 
A relatively normal website may have been compromised in some way to get some malware onto your machine which could explain how it got there, even if you've not been anywhere necessarily dodgy.

Malware can get into a machine easier than you think, even a malicious signature on these forums could potentially be used to do so.

I'm guessing VM are sending the notes out to people based on them spotting traffic between yourself and a known Citadel CnC server (I'm guessing here). This also brings the possibility that they are using old data maybe and a site you've visited was at some point part of a known Citadel resource.

Best check it out in any case :)

Thanks for the reply, I backed up any files I wanted to keep, Scanned them for any infection, Malware etc... and then transferred them to another HDD and then that got scanned again, Nuked my current hard drives and used parted magic to do a secure erase on the SSD.

If anything was on their it has now gone the way of the dodo :p
 
Wow VM scanning their network traffics for virus?

I am on VM 50MB broadband but never received emails from VM about viruses cos I used Norton Internet Security v21.
