OK my setup is suprerhub 2 in modem mode with my asus AC68U all has been fine as per usual...although today I couldnt remember my password for the router so i reset the router to reset a new password...but, I ended up with no ethernet connection at all only wireless connection , so after about 2 hours trying to think of what to do and even trying an older router I had but again no ethernet connection I ended up having to put the superhub 2 into router mode , all it was telling me was " Network Cable Unplugged" , does anyone have any advice as to what i need to do please ?because I'm just lost I have no idea what to do.

Thanks

FWIW you can run the SH in router mode and still try to figure out what's up with your AC68 connected via it's WAN. It receives an IP either way.

A cursory glance over the router, it doesn't have a dedicated ethernet WAN port, have you definitely enabled the LAN "as" WAN option in the menu?

Well I never had to do that befor ( had the router about two years) . why is that something I would need to do after this reset ?

I'd say that your memory is playing tricks on you. If you purchased that router new you would have needed to configure it to get an Ethernet WAN port. It's possible that it was done by the quick setup wizard that usually runs on domestic routers when they're new.

Yes I think you're right....but, for now while looking in my ( PC) cupboard under the stairs I came across a 56u router so I thought lets give that a go....and took less than 10 minutes to set up , but of course it does have a dedicated port

Was a suggestion as a stop gap so you could keep internet working whilst figuring out your router setup without having to flip in and out of modem mode.

While the ASUS AC68U is off you will need to hold in the reset button, turn it on and after 30 seconds release the reset button, make sure you only have one Ethernet cable plugged in from the AC68U LAN 1 port to your PC / Laptop. If you open your internet browser after a few minutes you will be automatically redirected to the ASUS configuration page.

OK Thanks Lab I should have said that I also use one of these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tp-link-8-port-gigabit-easy-smart-switch-tl-sg108e-nw-156-tp.html and just have one ethernet cable from the router to that, and all my other ethernet cables go into the switch because most of my ethernet cables are not long enough to reach the router .

You can also reset the Asus via the GUI, well you can on merlin firmware, if you haven't already you might want to consider merlins firmware for your asus router.

Does the switch get allocated it's own IP address?

Not that I'm aware of as far as I know its just plug it in , turn it on and away ya go , maybe I should also shut that off when resetting the router ? and as I recall when i put the switch in I turned everything off and booted them up one at a time .

@beach I have never used merlin

I have just checked the specs, it is a managed switch so it requires an IP address, therefore I would advise you disconnect this from the router until the router has been configured.

As in it has a web interface I have to go into ?

OK I just took a look at the switch itself it says it's a 8 port gigabit desktop switch tl sg108

If you can access the SH2 web interface, you need to login, put the SH2 into modem mode.

Make sure nothing is plugged into the ASUS router, hold in reset, turn the ASUS router on,
after 30sec let go of the reset button.

The Ethernet from SH2 should be plugged into the WAN port on the ASUS router.

Plug the switch into the LAN port on the ASUS router.

You should be able to access the ASUS configuration page by browsing to 192.168.1.1

OK thank you .

OK so for the last 1.5 hours I've been trying to use the 68u , but...no connection at all , followed the steps above, but again nothing ...all it was telling me is that the DSL cable was unplugged and that a phone cable needs to be connected ? and after about 10 minutes a small window would come up saying "Diconnected".

Also the router itself has no dedicated WAN porn on the back only a Blue ADSL/VDSL Port plus 4 yellow ports , the first one is where I had the SH2 ( modem mode) connected to and the switch connected to port next to it , but even with my PC conncted to the router without the splitter I was getting no connection .

Thank you for your help and time anyway :)
