Anyone here heard anything regarding VM overclocking the original superhubs so they can run @100+ services?
I heard (from a VM engineeer) that they are actually overclocking the SH's to get the speeds out of them, some take it some dont but apparently they were only rated to 90 max, anything else is luck of the draw...

I heard a fair bit with people saying the PSU's buzz.

Well mines fine when browsing the internet, but when the internet is being hammered it locks the hub out and it needs to be cycled.
Have reset it to defaults, have tried it in router and modem mode, nothing works, PSU buzzzes its **** off then crashes, all VM want to do is send a replacement PSU, I've tried other PSU's from other SH and get the same thing.

I just run mine as a modem, so can't comment on anmy buzzing/locking.

Though would assume a lot more noise would have been made about this if it were true.

How you didn't laugh in his face and get straight on the blower to VM asking if they could send an engineer that isn't a total idiot, is beyond me.

I would have expected to get a straighter more reliable answer from people with a wider range of experience on here tbh..

More than likely BS. Even something low-end and ancient like an Asus RT-N16 manages over 150Mbps throughput simultaneously according to SmallNetBuilder.

So I very much doubt that Virgin even on a rubbish free-packaged router will utilise hardware that is slower than five year old lower-end equipment.

I'm using a SH 1 on the 150mB service with no problems. I am using it in modem mode, but if people couldn't get the speed when signing up for 150mB, there would be a lot of complaints and VM would have to upgrade their Superhubs.

Cheap, poorly made PSUs. I had about four of them and VM finally got their act together, and now you can request a new PSU from the VM support forums, with a new model number, and it's as quiet as it should be.

If your SH is locking under load, it sounds like it's faulty. VM should replace.

Yeah. It's called a "profile". Nothing's getting overclocked.

When you want to upgrade your package, Virgin will simply delete the 50Mb profile on your modem and send a 150Mb profile to the same modem for example.

Good luck getting a replacement out of Virgin. Sad lady on the phone confirmed my Superhub was broken yet refused a replacement because she had a problem or was jealous about me having 802.11n capable WiFi clients. Hope she burns in hell for that show of utterly diabolical service.

Have similar problem with my SH1, browsing is OK but when under heavy use the hub goes crazy until the SH has been restarted. (high latency, ping) have had 5/6 replacement SH1 in the last 10 months and have the same problem with them all.

Offered to pay for the SH2 myself and be refunded the cost if this solves the problem but vm not happy to do this but are happy to send a tech to swap the SH1.
