Im on VM 10mb still at the mo, meant to be getting 20mb this month in my area, I wont hold my breath.

Usually I get full speed all the time download speed sits at 1.17mb/s constant, however tonight it was at max for a while and now it has slumped down to 580kbs, are VM traffic shaping me or just on a go slow tonight?

No they aren't. One of Blueyonder's network architects has said they only introduce it on your UBR when 20mb upgrade has been done.

I think there was an issue in the midlands area. Have a gander at VM's newsgroups. Or check their status page.

VM ARE traffic shapping, or as they call it traffic management.
They have released a press release and its on their website.

Basically if you download 3gb between 4pm - midnight then your download speed gets reduced from 10mb - 5mb.
After midnight it will go back upto 10mb again and you can download at full speed.

Its just a restriction on the peak hours, you can still download more then 3gb between 4pm - midnight it will just be at the reduced speed of 5mb for anything over 3gb.

Er yeah I didn't they they weren't. But they are only rolling it out in areas WHEN THEY UPGRADE YOU TO 20MEG. If they happen to have trialling it there before then maybe - but this has come straight from VM.

I was referring to the Op's case as he's on 10mb.

I'm currently on 10Mb and between 4pm and midnight I get "traffic managed" - so I guess it is happening in some areas where we are NOT on 20Mb (Middlesbrough btw, been "managed" now for about three weeks - and definitely still on 10Mb)

I dont understand why it has to be reduced to 5mb, on 10mb I have never experienced slow down at any time, I will be putting in a huge complaint to VM and if I find a replacement service I will be leaving.

The service is still unlimited with regards to the amount that you can download only the bandwidth is throttled between certain times. The cap is pretty lenient in my opinion and I'd struggle to find another provider that would give me the excellent service and download limits that I currently have with VM.

I don't see the problem if its only in those times theres nothing stopping you downloading 30gig a day if you wanted its just capped in those times, anyone wanting to jump on the adsl route will find it hard having such a massive dl amount.

I am on UKFSN atm they pretty good but you still get slow down at nights i can't wait to move and get on VM10meg.

Getting 6-7mb just now same as last night on 10mb, soon as it hits midnight it goes to the full 9.2 and I download at 1.2mbps.

I'm just waiting on there email response to moving to a business package for 10mb unlimited at £50-60 odd it says. I willing to pay a premium for it and al still be crippling there bandwidth. Yet they don't seem to mind that..
