Hey,

I have a funky error in VMWare. I'm trying to add a server into a resource pool with approx 16 vm's in the resource pool. Upon trying to move the VM into the pool the following message is displayed:

"The CPU resource shares for xxxxxx are much higher than the virtual machine's in the resource pool. With its current share settings, the virtual machine will be entitled to xx% of the CPU resources in the pool. Are you sure you want to do this?"

I imagine that there is some form of limit on resource groups as you are splitting the server resources into separate resource groups. I can't seem to find anything useful on this and was wondering if anybody has seen this error before?

Cheers,

Jon

I'm sure one of our engineers ran into this at some point and it was some conflict between the pool settings and the setting for the VM. Are you importing it from somewhere else perhaps?

Try looking at the resource allocation for each VM individually to look for any differences as I can't see what else it could be other than a bug in ESX which is unlikely.

Sounds like you have shares set on the VM's you are importing which will violate the DRS. To get around this individually check the shares of the VM's (are they already in a resource pool if so move them out of this before hand).

Also check the DRS settings on the pool it's going in to to see if it has enough resources free and expand the resource pool if needed.
