I currently have VMware Workstation 6 Running on vista. i have 2 virtual installs. one being windows xp pro and the other fedora 6.

i've just bought some new components for the pc that vmware runs on. it will be upgraded in the near future. is it possible to retain the "virtual machines" even though the hardware will be changed or will i have to set them all up again? i feel i already know the answer but im hoping for some good fortune.

thanks in advance

VMWare and the hardware it runs on are 2 separate things. You should be able to move the virtual machines to the new hardware with no issues and VMWare creates its won virtual hardware to run the machines on.

Have a look under the computer management section on your virtual windows box and you will see that none of the components match what you currently have installed

This is part of the whole point of virtualisation. You can move your virtual machines between any hardware and OS combination that's capable of running VMware workstation. :)
