vmware on linux

just wonder if there is any difference between "windows vmware" and "linux vmware"...
can i install vmware on ubuntu for example and run windows from there just like that?

Well already got VM installed by now
Just having trouble installing the VMware tools, pretty new to linux so I guess that's why.
I have a .rpm and a .tar.gz folders on my dekstop now which contain the vmware tools, how to go install it from here? I tried "apt-get install X" but it didn't work so well
