VMWare Player 3.1 installation fails every time

Hey guys,

Trying to installed mv player but its just refusing and giving me errors every single time.

Keep getting 'The MSI' error 1935
Annoying thing is I desperately need it for college work, but i can install it!

I'm running vista x64

Has anyone run into this error and solved it?
The vmware forum is utterly rubbish.

Iv tried extracting the installer exe and running the msi from the extraction ... no joy
tried clearing my temp folder and reinstalling. fails.

Please help! haha my mind is fried :rolleyes:

Sounds like a dodgy exe/msi (corrupt).

Have you tried a fresh download of said installer?

Update all your .net things on Windows update

Might fix it..

As bledd has suggested, try updating/checking your .net install(s) on your PC.

As vSphere 5 looks like they're finally replacing the client and removing the reliance on .net, hopefully they'll be releasing a new Player as well with similar improvements.

Yea had 2 download of the thing, no joy :/

Sorry for the triple post.

As i said no joy with .Net Framework 4

Is there any point in my installing Framework 2? as vista shipped with 3 which is 2 with more stuff?

I really need to get vmware installed as my project is due next week and have limited class time :mad:

You could check if your installed version of Windows installer (run "msiexec" from Cmd prompt or from Start > Run)

If it's lower than V 4.5, you could try installing an update from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942288 - I'm not 100% sure if this is the latest version for Vista.

Then retry VMWare Player install.

Another thought would be if you're running any Ad Aware or Spybot programs which might be blocking the installation. If you have any of these running, might be worth checking and/or disabling.

Also, are you running the installation under an Admin level user account?

Run msiexec and get this
Windows ® Installer. V 4.5.6002.18005

Tried to reinstall .net 1.1 but didn't install after I unistalled it lol.

I'm near the end of my project now so its pretty hopeless trying anymore.
After this term at college is done im just gonna rebuild the rig and put win7 86 on.
