I have been tasked to set up a server for use as a test bed for some test/dev servers.
The base platform is a 2xquad core xeon box with 16GB ram running 2k3server 64bit.
The requirement is for 3 or 4 guests to run on this box.
We have 6 disks in total, 2x80GB for the host os and 4x750Gb disks for the guests.
The raid controller is a single Dell PERC6/i.
Leaving the host os to one side. Should I have 2 separate raid1 arrays with 2 VMs on each or one big 4 disk raid10 array with all 4 on ?
If you can explain your thinking that would also be fab as it will help my understand this issue in more depth.
Cheers,
Which is likely to be faster for read/write performance ?
