VMware server help please

I recently installed the free VMWare server 1.0.1. Been using it and its great!

Can an experienced vmware user please explain what the VMNet1 and VMNet8 network connections are for please? I think these are causing my pc to pause for 10-15 seconds on bootup each time.

I am having great trouble getting the network working in my VMs.

My setup:

Vista RTM 32bit
Latest VMWare server (1.0.1).

my network is in the 10.0.0.xx ip range.

I want to use bridged network, so my VM can have its own IP address.

How do I set this up in VMWare please? Currently the VM can't access the network or internet.

I noticed the VMWare virtual nics have 192.168 ip address range which is different to mine.

One last thing, do you still have the VMWare dhcp and nat services running or can they be stopped and set to manual?
