Last night I was desperately trying to P2V a machine which I need the bare metal from, but it kept failing, and it wasn't at the same % each time either, but the same exit status, "FAILED: A general system error occurred: Operation was canceled"

The only thing I can think of why this occured would be the fact that the VCS\VMWare converter server is hosted on a different site to the machine, and the cluster I'm trying to put it into. But it wasn't going over the WAN then to the LAN, as I know for facts that my 100Mbit WAN link between the two can't process at the 35-40MB\s, so the machine might have lost connectivity to the converter server during the processing of it.

The machine, is rather large - 615Gb in size (not all used, but the physical disks are that size) - I did also provision the LUN to be 620Gb. It's running SQL, the first run I did I had services up, which I stopped afterwards, and also on the second pass I told it to sync FS changes whilst it was doing the processing.

So, there you have it, any ideas? Just I need this bare metal for another project.

It's hot. I've not done a P2V for ages, since my last job (as we only run bare metal for intensive servers, exchange, SQL clusters etc) - but I was under the idea that when P2V'ing it rebooted it when it started converting it - which is why I was a bit weirded out when it stayed on.

What method of P2V would you suggest? I'm just using VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone v5.

I'm also rerunning it now, I installed the software on a machine local to that LAN and capped the BW so hopefully it'll complete, just slower.
