Hey everyone,

So I am trying to install the windows 8 consumer preview. However I keep getting this error message:

From what I have gathered its basically to do with a setting or series of settings in the BIOS. Is this correct? If so I think it is to do with the settings in the picture. I just don't want to change things unnecessarily. What do you all think?

Thanks :)

maybe your cpu doesn't support that? try vmware with it disabled. i'm not even sure what that it does exactly. i know VT-x is shorthand for virtualisation tech so i thought it might be related. :p

well vmware obviously doesn't need it then. my ancient q6600 can run a 64bit guest so you shouldn't have any problems.

edit: here we go, 64bit ISO of windows 8 installing inside vmware player on my machine.....

Right so it has at least loaded now, however am I suppose to put it on to USB/DVD first? I am just trying to create a new VM using the ISO file. But I am getting this:

Thanks!

Thanks for the help. Eventually got there anyway, had to go through the custom setup for the VM. Used windows 7 64 bit as the OS being installed because it was not recognized from the ISO file. This assigned more memory and storage than the 'other OS' option. Then I was also able to enter a product key.

Powered it on and it started moaning about the key file so I found a fix online where you have to disconnect the floppy drive, now I have this:

So I think I have got there in the end!
