I read that Vodafone is starting to rollout 5G standalone which is meant to be faster and more reliable. But at the moment it’s only meant to work on some Samsung galaxy ultra phones. Is this likely to work on iPhone 14 pros with a newer iOS update at some point? As on some American sites it says to go into cellular settings but this isn’t on uk phones

Standard 5G is available on all 5G enabled devices, it’s 5G Ultra which is only available on Samsung devices at the moment.

I’m sure there will be an update at some point, the amount of potential customers they’d lose out on doesn’t seem like good business.

It’s mobile data in settings rather than cellular if your phone is set to ‘United Kingdom’ as the region as we call them mobile rather than cellphone. Then at the top you have mobile data options in there you have to option to use 5G Auto, 5G on or 4G. However it’s completely irreverent at the moment because the current crop as stated above don’t support it. It’ll come either in the 15 or 16 when it’s actually readily available to use.

In some cases 4G is actually quicker than 5G so I wouldn’t really worry about it as it’s realistically not going to affect you in any way shape or form.

I have a 12 Pro on iOS14.3 on Smarty network. I had it tethered to my Mac Mini and PC to use to as my "broadband" as I was waiting for full fibre to be installed. I left Plusnet on 40mb and used my phone which was running around 300meg....! 14 Pro should be fine unless you live in a crappy area with poor coverage. I also noticed with low battery mode the network would drop to 4G.

The device is compatible it’s just Vodafone have done their testing using older Samsung phones, once they have tested fully on the iPhones I see no reason they won’t enable it.

Seems like the people don't seem to know the difference between 5G NSA and SA - yes it is a big deal to have the support for it. SA for the term 5G Ultra, that is the equivalent marketing speak of 'Retina' display, in other words it is nonsense.

OP - I'd ask Apple/Vodafone your question directly on their forum, or via their support teams.

Can't find any further information about the Vodafone 5G Ultra roll out to other devices just 'Next Month' from the announcements which would have been nowish
