Vodafone unable to unlock my Nokia?

I requested an unlock code from Vodafone for my old N70 which arrived in the post however it doesn't seem to work. The first time I typed it in I wasn't expecting it to auto submit on the last key press so I might have messed up - the second time I'm 100% sure I got everything right and still no joy. I then noticed the IMEI number on the letter Voda sent me with the NUK was incorrect (last digit changed) and figured this may have been why, after a visit to the Voda shop today the guy said they always change the last number of the IMEI for security reasons and that they are currently unable to unlock some Nokia handsets and if the code didn't work first time they've been told not to bother trying it again.

Does anyone know if the above is true and if there's any alternative? As far as I know Voda are legally obliged to unlock the phone.

This was my first network branded handset and I'll avoid them again in the future, luckily my N95 is unlocked and unbranded.

Many thanks

Similar thing happened to my N70 with 3, i phoned up for the unlock code and typed it in twice perfectly but the phone basically said it couldn't do anything with the code, so 3 told me to goto my local Nokia service centre and they told me it is permenetly locked to 3 now :( .

Best thing i can suggest is taking it to your local nss and see if they can do anything for you.

I managed to unlock my mobile (N70) by using a cable (MUST be a DKU5 cble). Took a bit of faffing but it was locked to orange france - now its totally unlocked. Email me if you want details

Type in *#06# write that number down and call 191, ask them to check it in the database, the number on your letter has to match the IMEI on your handset or it wont work.

Hi,

Working for Vodafone if you want to drop us an email including i) the Network Unlock Code (NUC) that was provided, ii) your IMEI number and the IMEI that appeared on the letter and iii) make and model of handset, one of our team who monitor internet feedback will be able to look into this for you (contact details below).

I'm not aware of Vodafone changing the last digit of an IMEI so my first thoughts are this could be the problem. If you go to the Vodafone Email Contact area, leaving your details and also the code FIT135 then somebody will be able to look into your information securely for you.
