Voice overs using rode video mic on macbook

Has anyone got their rode video mic or other powered shotgun mic to work on their macbook?

Since the macbook uses a single port for line in/out you need an adapter, but Ive had no luck so far.

What are you guys using for voice overs?

Bought the Rode SC4 TRS-TRRS adapter.

It works fine with an external mic on my mobile but still doesn't work in OSX on my 13" Macbook Pro. Oddly it will work on 11" Macbook Air but only if the system is restarted and microphone power is turned off. Then once you turn the mic power on, it switches to external mic.

It's driving me a bit nuts at the moment.
