I regularly use Skype to ring my friend on her mobile and landline number in Hong Kong but at the moment I'm sick of using my Sony webcam.
I'm wanting to buy a cordless VOIP phone.
Can you recommend me one?

I was originally going to buy the Linksys Cordless Internet VoIP Phone which has been out for a while...

But then I saw this Netgear one which can make and receive any VOIP call from anywhere as long as there's a wifi spot...

And now to make things worse, I've just seen this new soon to be released Phillips MSN one...

Which one should I get? I only use Skype to contact my one friend in HK and I've hardly got anyone on my Skype contact list and yet I use MSN everyday and obviously I've got loads of people on there yet I'm never used MSN's equivalent of Skype... Has anyone tried it?

If you only use Skype for one person, do you really want to be spending that sort of money on a VOIP phone?

A certain supermarket has recently started their own internet phone service. They're selling USB VOIP phones for £15. Not wireless obviously, but they do work with Skype if you download a little add-in for Skype off the net. That's what I did for mine, and it works fine.

Really depends how often you use the phone and what sort of stuff you want from it though.

I call my friend in HK about 3-4 times a week using Skype as I don't wanna spend stupid money calling her from a BT landline yet Skype was IMO the only viable cheap option for me to do this.

Now I find out Microsoft have launched their Skype equivalent called Verizon but I have yet to try this. From what I've read, call charges are very similiar.

Also, reason why I want a cordless VOIP phone is cause I don't wanna be tied down and stare at the computer for hours on end just cause I wanna chat to her. It would be nice if I could walk around freely in my house to chat or even lie in my bed and chat away...

I used to own the Linksys CIT200 but I eventually sold it due to lack of use. the phone itself was ok but the battery life wasn't that great and the pc had to be left switched on in order to use it.

This looks pretty good but I'm not sure how much the mobile operators will charge when you make calls over the web.

Verizon are a US mobile phone network; I think you mean BT Broadband Talk.

I think the Linksys CIT200 is your best bet, to be honest. It's not as good looking and doesn't have as good a screen as the NETGEAR WiFi phone, but it's £100 less (£50 as opposed to £150) and it should get the job done. Besides, there are very few public places where you can get wireless internet access without paying obscene amounts of money, so the NETGEAR phone wouldn't be much use out of the house anyway :)

That Phillips MSN phone does sound amazing tho...
I wonder if you could still use this phone on Skype anyway and vice versa with the Linksys and Netgear one?
