Hi guys

Not really expecting this to get answered tbh but worth a shot.

I recently bought a Gigaset SL785 handset and a Linksys PAP2T VoIP adaptor to play with and have had perfect results but the Linksys cannot run 2 G.711 connections at the same time, the 2nd line had to run at lower G.729 etc.

I came across the Gigaset S685IP phones that have the Voip system built in which is even better as I really wanted 1 base station to cover both the normal work BT line and the 2 VoIP ones.

My question is: Does anyone here know 'fo sho' that the S685IP can support at least 2 simultaneous calls when using G.711A/U codec?

Thanks,

Nick :).

I'm not familiar with this equipment or hugely knowledgeable in the voip subject but it is odd that it requires a compressed codec when using both. Compressing the analogue signal will surely require more resources than the uncompress G711 codec at 64Kbps? Is it just when calling each phone as they will decide on a codec between them. Or when both phones try and communicate with a external line (VSP and/or PSTN)?

I was being a forgetful nub. I think the PAP2T stated that it couldn't do 2 G.729 calls at once due to lack of processing power. I am right in think that G.711 needs far less processing/compression work? I am pretty sure then that I won't have any issues with 2 lines running 711 on this handset.

Thanks,

Nick :)
