It's also very handy to have your VoIP number connected to a softphone. When I was on holiday in Brazil early last year I needed to call a few UK numbers and rather than paying the exciting EE roaming charges I had my iPhone connected to the Wi-Fi in the Airbnb and could make calls over my Sipgate account for pretty much zero cost.
