I've got one of these as a pool car from work for 3 days and WOW what a car.

Its a 61 plate with 6 speed DSG, cloth interior and all the tricks. I can honestly say, I'm seriously impressed.

I drove from Wiltshire to Stockport in it and it's been the most comfortable ride I've ever had the pleasure of. It was a 3 hour journey and I've managed 62mpg, which I think is very impressive for a 2.0 TDI.

I'm so impressed with this car, I'm considering getting one to replace my fiesta.

What are your thoughts the car?

I'm not really very keen - the engine isn't very nice, the interior is plastic and dull and it generally doesn't really interest me. I think it's quite over-rated.

I can't think of any stand out feature that would make me choose it over any other saloon. Looks a bit dull, drives a bit dull, engine is very dull, gearbox is excellent though. They're also not that cheap.

Gear box is amazing, will give you that. I really liked the fact it was spacious and not a closeted cab, as you get with most modern card. Perfect for my wife and son.

I have issues with a bad back but these seats are amazing, by far one of the best! For me anyway!

My neighbor has one of these in white (obviously) and I fell over when walking past it last week because it put me to sleep.

Am i right in thinking that you've never driven any newish car in that segment before?

The Passat is competent but pretty bland, i thought about one for about 7 seconds while considering new cars in the same segment but fell into a mini coma and decided to look else where instead.

Surprised you lasted 7 seconds

OP: Most comfortable seats ever?
Take a trip down to a Volvo dealer, you might end up with some Volvo seats instead of your bed!

I can only echo the other replies - you can't have driven much other than a Fiesta?
Yes, the Passat is a very competent car but OMFG it has to be the most dull, uninspiring and... *snore*

Dull can be good for a commuter tool. Many people don't want to notice their car when going to work in it, in the same way that the sign of a good referee is that you never notice them. Good car.

Is a perfectly good a-b car, in fact better than most.

I had the similar model as a pool car, and found it excellent as a daily driver. My personal car is the new audi a6, and it's fairly similar in terms of driving style.

I would rather have a Passat over a mondeo, which I have also owned.

The Passat will get you and your passengers where you want to go safely and in comfort.

I agree. But at the same time, it's nice to have at least a tiny bit of character.
Or poke. Or charm. Or SOMETHING remotely interesting.

My Audi is incredibly boring. But at least it's fast.

I've driven a few cars:

  • Honda Civic / Jazz / Insight
  • Ford Focus / Fiesta (New Models)
  • Golf Plus (2006)
  • Volvo C30 / V40

The issue with seats is normally they're too soft, which was the problem with the Civic.

This was another reason why the Passat seemed like a good choice. I dont care about boring, its fine by me.

Drive a skoda superb estate in elegance trim. It's even better. I have just bought my wife one, what a great car for dog plus family :)

The Passat is a fine car.... No more, no less.

Pleasant is about the best way I could sum up my feelings on them. Quite content when Avis hand me the keys, never disappointed when they don't
