How simple is it to do this? Is it idiot proof because m quite unlucky with computers, anyone have a step by step guide or a video tutorial?
Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.
is that the software that comes with the asus card package?
heat will most likely damage it. upping the voltage will make the VRM's + core a lot hotter...Check this out:

Afterburner will only allow you to up your voltage to the max specified by your GFX card's BIOS so you can't push it over its limit. That doesn't mean you won't lock up/crash your PC (most commonly by overclocking the core clock too high) but you're unlikely to damage anything.
is it safer to just leave it as it comes

flash bios? i thought that msi afterburner software did all that for me
I'm not sure if yuzi87 realises that the Asus cards already come with a higher voltage threshold than the other 5xxx reference boards - either way, you don't need to flash your card scorchisio - it'll work fine with Afterburner.
Aegis, 1.35v is WAY TOO HIGH for only 990Mhz core. I can do 1GHz at 1.237v.

They do? Are you sure about? My Sapphires went to 1.35v without any issue. And Scorchisio can only overclock as far as his cards overdrive limits, its only the Asus cards that have the higher clock limits. There is an unlocked MSI bios, but its not on the stock cards.
BTW, Smartdoctor has a little bit higher voltage range than Afterburner. ONLY works on Asus (flashed) cards.
