Ok, so today i took the plunge.
The volvo currently has a bleed-valve fitted
I Have upped the boost to just under and indicated 10psi. As i thought, the actuator struggles to maintain this, and drops to approx 6psi. This was why i went for a bleed valve atm, just to see how the actuator coped.
I tried a couple of launches, but its very wet out. Anything over 1.5k and it spins up till about 4! The initial 10psi boost only really kicks in when you first nail the throttle, so to get 10psi again (albeit breifly) you can lift and re-nail the throttle during gearchange.
Its pretty lairy on the launch (just managed 7.89 tonight), and i think the cheapy tyres are letting me down (local garage doing a bogof on tyres!) So once these are changed and its dry. Combine that a re-built actuator (should be fun) with a stronger spring, it should maintain boost above 6psi. Oh, and with half a tank of petrol!
Bleed-valve cost will be removed when i have an MBC in.
Tyre costs are going down as non-project.
I also used a tank of injector cleaner - Not sure if i including this in the project cost...
Costs so far:
Volvo 480 turbo - 411.00
Boost gauge (inc delivery) - 24.94
Bleed Valve - 16.99 (temporary)
Total Cost - 448.93
Boost at 10-6 (ish) psi
Wet 0-60 - 7.89 seconds
