I have a friend who's just picked up a '98 reg S40 that continually flashes its indicators if he locks the car with the remote, is this indicating some kind of fault and if so, what? :)

Cheers.

Seems it will likely be the alarm siren. Just found this. Theres a couple of threads on there about this, new siren seems to fix the problem. They're about £130 from Volvo or £30-40 second hand.

It's likely a completely different system, and of no use me saying this; but my car does this if the battery is particularly flat, but not so flat it won't start the car.

*bump* :D

A friend of mine just purchased an s40 with the same issue. I googled, and wouldn't you know, this was the first search result :D.

Scania, did you have any joy finding out what the issue was chap?.

:D cheers.

Edit: Fixed.. For anyone who reaches the thread from google.. There's a switch with a long metal arm located within/rear side of the bonnet catch. Beneath the long metal arm is the actual switch. I gave it a good going over with switch cleaner (wd40 would be fine), cleaned it all up, plunged the switch a bunch of times, and it's working/solved. Failing that; you could remove the metal arm all-together with a pair of pliers or w/e. If the switch isn't activated, the hazard blinking stops.
