Hi

The Type R I will have had for 3 years in January and I fancy a change. But I really want to get something that's a bit easier on the fuel and a bit more refined. It doesn't need to be fast either I think I really have became an old man.

I have been looking at the VOLVO S40 SE 2.0D [Euro 4] on an 05 plate. Can get one of these for about £3700 and still get some cash back from the Type R when sold.

This one has 96k on the clock and has all the usual like leather and heated seats etc.
Does this seem like a decent price for the car and is the mileage anything to worry about on that engine? Anything to look out for on the S40 in general?

Cheers

Damn are they really that bad engines just fancied the low tax and not needing to visit a petrol station for hundreds of miles :(

Seems expensive to me (£300 more than I paid for my T5) but Diesels always do. On a motorway run I've managed 44mpg - something like 550 miles to a tank - and am averaging 33mpg with B-road commuting and the occasional longer trip. But if it's refinement you're after then you should try an S60 or S80, the S80's ride is in a different league.

Thanks for the information on the price bud. I really like the s60 as well so will look into those.
