Started a thread link below and now realise its probably more a software question but have a look if you like :p

 Anyone running the Vortexbox software and outputting via an SPDIF?

I'm looking to build a Media Center but with preference to hardwire than stream and use the MPod or MPad app to control. This will give my a library i can control from the chair with no streaming, basically a NAS plugged direct into a DAC

Just to add, the Vortexbox software is based on Fedora/Linux OS.

Hmmm ... No. Vortex box just rips and serves music? Why not just use XMBC as ripping media is not difficult, or do you feel vortex box is superior?

Just had to Wiki XMBC because i didn't know what it done.

I picked the VB software as it is in use in the VB box's which i was looking into buying. I realise now i could put something similar together but in a fanless design that can sit in the front room, quite running and using the same software.
If XMBC can be configured the same way as the VB, auto rip to FLAC or any other lossless format, tag files and download the artwork, automatically with no screen then i suppose these no reason why not. Can that be done?

I have pinged an email to Vortexbox today regarding the spdif output, if it can be set up that way using the M remote app that would be pretty cool. I've only come across one other product similar and thats the SoTA Vortexbox and its not available here.

There are many applications that can rip FLAC so you don't need vortexbox for that. XBMC downloads the fan art ... Have a look at some screenshots ...
