I will be ordering this cooler soon, as I need a cheap and quiet alternative to the stock cooler on the HD 4850, as it is much too much for me at anything past about 50% fan speed and the Temps can climb over 90c unless I give it more fan speed. I am aware this cooler comes with no VRM cooling, but if I buy some VRM heatisnks/ram sinks, would they be too tall and would the cooler obstruct it?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-014-ZA&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=787 theres an example of what I mean, and if they do fit, are these adaquate enough?

Just jig off the back end of the old cooler, stick that bad boy on the VRMs. Ive not tried but personally with those you linked too butI think the space under the back of the vortexxx is too small, the stock piece is a tight fit.

VRMs should be fine as they are, I'm using one of my overclocked 4850, in side my Lian Li V350 and don't get any crashes because of the VRMs overheating etc. :)

They#re not bad - was running two in Crossfire.

See if you can rig them into the card's fan controller, rather than the molex, however, as they get pretty "whooshy" under maximum power.
