Hi there, I recently bought a vortex neo for my 8800gt and within 5 mins of the pc turned on the graphics card let litle crackeling sounds and a smell of burning was around. i touched the graphics card and it stuck to me. Im positive the car was installed right as i followed the disgrams sent with it, all the little spungy pads on top of the memory chips and i had artic silver 3 here to i added some of that to the 8800 chip as you would to a cpu chip.

Due to this I put the standard cooler back on again and everything is running smooth, anyone know what the problem might be?

Yes it was, not very fast though, then again im not sure how fast its ment to go, it was plugged in properly and the blue light was showing. everything "seemed" fine.

This is what always worries me about replacing stocker coolers. Go back to the old one and hope it hasn't killed the card

Sorry to hear you had problems. I installed a Vortexx on my 8800GT and have nothing but praise for it. Can run the card virtually silent now (have the fan controlled by the mobo), with the same clocks I had before.

I would try putting the original HSF on to see if it works.

Yea its a real shame because its a nice enough cooler, but seems its a tad to slow for the gfx card, so im on stock cooler here again and it seems to be keeping her cool enough. But I dont know what to do with the vortex now.

Try reinstalling it?

Take it slow and sure, don't put too much TIM on, make sure it's tightened well. Monitor the fan speed, should be around 2500RPM when on full, and 1700RPM under mobo control (what mine's set too).
