Is it worth upgrading to the higher resolution screen? bearing in mind its being powered by an 8600. I'm sure I'd find the 1280*800 screen too low resolution. The screen is only 15.4 inches wide so would the 1440*900 screen be the best option? As I'm sure that even on the desktop I'd find icons too small at 1680*1050. I'm just trying to sort myself a laptop at the moment and finding it very hard to make a decision, this laptop seems to offer the best value for money though. Thanks in advance guys! :)

It won't be my main pc. I'll mostly be using the machine for browsing and playing a few games (WoW, CSS, C&C) and probably some design stuff so 1440 is looking like the sensible choice. :)

a 8600GT, 2.0 processor, 2gb ram and the 1440 screen can be had for under £650, not sure what the price is that comes up on dell site atm but i got mine quite a while ago for just over £600 with some haggling

I've just tried that config (currently with free upgrade to 3GB) and It comes in at £544 + vat and del. I think I might need two!!:D

If I opt for the 9 cell battery how badly does it stick out from the machine? and I can't find an option to buy an extra battery, is this not possible? as I read somewhere there is an option to remove the dvd drive and replace it with an extra battery.
