Well finally set to order my Vostro, gonna upgrade to the faster hard drive as i know that vista accesses it a lot.

Looking at this spec:

Base Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache)
Microsoft Operating System Genuine Windows Vista® Business - English
Memory 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)
Keyboard Internal Keyboard - UK/Irish (QWERTY)
Video Card 256MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT
Hard Drive 160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
Modem 56.6k V.92 Capable Internal Modem & Adapter - UK
Optical Devices Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software
Wireless Networking Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-Card - Europe
LCD 17" Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Display with TrueLife™

Now thats the 17" version, also specced the same for the 15" version and its a matter of pence difference.

Will cost me roughly £598 at that spec above. The upgrade to a 7200rpm drive is going to add £58 to it.

But basically, i can go for 1700 or the 1500. Is there a particular reason not to go for the bigger screen? is the build quality worse or performance somehow a lot worse? i figure the bigger machine may get rid of some of these overheating problems that people are having with their Vostro machines. The bigger monitor may be putting more strain on the gfx though, however its not a massive upgrade in resolution so doubt too major.

Anyone somehow got or used both machines or can give some constructive reasons to go for one over the other? Portability is not a problem, this is to be used at home and plugged into a mains, just want it moveable from room to room to play some games on.

Thanks

i'd wait for about 4 days, dell are doing a sale for 10 days starting christmas eve, i cant obviously know whether we're talking a lot off or barely anything though.
as for the matter at hand (17" or 15") i could be talking rubbish but wouldnt the 17" monitor require more power than the 15" ?
EDIT: read the last of your post :o (yes i didnt read it all lol :p)
i think you should go for the 17" screen, gaming with 15" wouldnt be as good as the 17".

Thanks for the reply mate :)

yeah power is not an issue it will be plugged into the mains for the majority of the time.

Hmmm wonder if should wait for that sale....might make big savings...might also lose out though if other deals expire or something lol. ARGH. Girlfriend gonna call to order this on her last break at work, anyone got more info on this sale Dell going to do? should i tell her not to order? :/

my thoughts are say you wait, you lose out on the free delivery (about £60 inc VAT) so really the sale would have to be £60 off or something >.<
i've heard a few people on here phoning up and ordering they're laptop and asking for money off or extras ? i'd probably order it just now mate. i on the other hand have to wait lol i dont get paid till the 28th :o
