VPN and email Software

Hi,

A friend has asked me to look into some VPN options. He has a PC with
XP PRO, he wishes to securely share files across the net with a colleague in Scotland who is running XP Home. Can anyone recommend any free/ cheap VPN software that would allow this?

He also would like to share his Outlook calendar as well, is there a cheaper version of exchange/ email server software that will allow this? Or does anyone have any suggestions for sharing a calendar across a VPN?

WinXP has built in VPN features which will be sufficient for this purpose I think.

Also have a look at Hamachi for networking computers at different sites together. Dead simple and a breeze to setup. Even works through some firewalls.

I have been looking at logmein, I take it that when you connect to the other PC you are taking control of it realtime rather than setting up a new session like through RDP?

Yeah, with logmein it is realtime control, it's great for remote access but not particularly good for what you say you want.
