Hey guys.

I got called into a meeting today to discuss VPN and what their options were as the business now wants to be able to access their areas from home.

Now they are thinking Citrix i have seen and used Citrix but never set it all up and administered it. I also thought this may cost a bit.

First i want to know is how easy is it to deploy and maintain?

Secondly what is it going to cost? for say 5 users...

They don't have a server so if they did host it they would need one and i am guessing you can rent servers.

Its quite complicated if you have done nothing with terminal services before, and expensive.

For 5 users if would not be cost effective imo, but then I guess it depends on who its for and how important they (think?) they are.

What do you mean by "the business now wants to be able to access their areas from home"??

Is this just files/email or are you talking applications?

And you will probably want a citrix access gateway (CAG) if you are coming in over the internet, again, more cost on top of the server, OS, terminal licences, citrix software, citrix licences etc etc...

A reasonable quality small firewall (watchguard for example) with SSL VPN and terminal services would be much more cost effective at this level

Basically what they want is to remote access into their areas to access emails, files etc maybe even perform basic tasks in applications.

Any recommendations?

Agreed... I've had good success with watchguards even though everyone slates them.

Do they? Must have missed that argument!

How can you slate a firewall which has

1) "armed" and "disarmed" lights
2) the best paint job in the business

:D
