Hi all,

I have an RT AC87U at home, and noticed some of the VPN functions on it. Is it possible to connect the router to a VPN server (would be at an office) on a PC running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. Essentially, it would be so we could connect the PCs at home to the domain on the Windows Server, and we can access the network files etc from home. We currently use Teamviewer VPN, which works but is almighty slow and a bit of a faff.

Would it be any faster and/or is it worth doing, and what program would I have to use on the Server at the office to set up the VPN server?

Thanks,

Shiv

It should be capable of doing it but it would tunnel all your home network traffic through it. You're probably better either signing into the VPN per device or sitting something behind your router as a VPN client and connecting to it when you want to use the VPN.

It would be possible and you could avoid sending all your traffic over the it by only adding specific routes to the ranges you want to reach over the VPN
