trying to connect t a VPN using widows 7 but getting the following error in my event log

A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

any ideas what to do here ?

For starters, click the little link at the bottom of that error message.

I'm not trying to be rude, but we have no idea what VPN client you're using, what you're connecting to, what certificates you have installed, or much other information. Most we can do at this point is check that error against the known issues with Microsoft.

theres no little link at the bottom of the error message. this is just what I menaged to dig up out of the event log.

The normal error just says to check the settings.

I'm trying to connect using windows standard network connection. You just go to connect to network and setup a vpn connection.

i'm connecting to my works vpn.

in vista and xp this worked fine using the defualt settings but it seems windows 7 being more picky about something. Perhaps the error mentioning the certificate is a big giveaway.

There should be a link for every error in your event log at the bottom: "More Information: Event Log Online Help". That will submit the Event code and some details to support.microsoft.com and that might help determine which settings in the VPN client need to be changed. For security reasons, Windows 7 probably has a different security setting checked versus XP or Vista.
