I have a d-link router sitting in my living room which is connected directly to the main cable modem (oldish motorola). The apple TV 3 is connected via cable to the router.

I have a UK itunes account but live in Belgium but would still like to get netflix.

the plan was to buy a paid VPN just to like it directly to my apple TV and my ipad via the router so that all other internet traffic would go through the normal router but any ipad/apple tv data would be through the VPN.

I have assigned all my devices static ips but still cannot fathom the router settings out and info is hard to come by.

I would even consider a router upgrade as I'm not to happy with the d-link which constantly drops connections and has a weak signal.

I know it's not really an apple hardware question but wondered if anyone has done this before with apple TV and did it work? Perhaps someone done it in the UK to get the US version of netflix working on their apple TV?

Last time I used Netflix on my ATV2, I just manually set the DNS server to a US IP address and it gave me access to US content. Here were the ones I've tried:

Primary - 190.14.36.90
Secondary - 109.123.11.24

It was a while ago so they may not work anymore, YMMV.

The DNS server on your router ?

Anyone used unblock US 5 USD per month and it routes your ip via the correct server for UK or US and even canada.

I'm going to sign up tonight for the 7 day trial to test. I will let you know

i stuck it on the router itself as I couldn't get it to save the dns servers on the phone or the ipad didn't try the ATV it works well from the router even if it is dodgy since i'm sending all my data via their ips unencrypted but I'm also doing that with my ISP anyway so no difference there.

I signed up to netflix via ATV with 1 month free than 8 USD per month.

I could also access bbc iplayer on my ipad and ITV player worked great on my PC I can now watch all BBC sports highlights (geo restricted before) very happy with it and will be signing up for 5 USD per month (much cheaper than VPN US only options.)

Watched Episode 1 of breaking bad last night on netflix via apple tv and watched family guy on the ipad both very clear and no lag or buffering.
