Can anyone recommend a good and FREE VPN (or FTP) software that I can share the contents of my specified folder with my friend directly, via the Internet? It needs to be secure (HTTPS?/FTPS?). What do you guys think of GBridge http://www.gbridge.com ? Is that any good, or you have something else better than this? It needs to be FREE, please? There's bound to be one, somewhere. Many thanks.

I was just about to ask about something similiar.

I am actually looking at openvpn as an alternative to citrix for a vpn solution at work.

The pricing for citrix seems mental for what it actually does.

I am really looking for something that offers 2 form authentication which i am not sure if openvpn offers need to check on that.

open vpn comes with 2 licenses out of the box for development purposes which i think should be more than adequate for you.

alternatively you could use filezilla's ftp solution to offer sftp if it is simply to share files. this is free and i use it to transfer stuff from home to work as well as friends

If all you want to do is share a couple of folders between people. Depending how much space you need,
Dropbox http://db.tt/o9Myotx could be a good answer.

Create a folder which is sync on the server, and can be shared between people.

Box.com is another option.

Any kind of VPN, if all you wish to do is share one folder is a bit too much! If you want to give them direct access, then i'd look at windows ssh servers. Would offer sftp access.

Re openvpn, you can have certs and user accounts at the same time, needing both to login.

If your set on the VPN idea, the free version of WinSSHD is very good for both tunneling and SCP/SFTP. I found it quite a bit more stable than FreeSSHd

OpenVPN is open source software, it's free no matter how many users you have.

And it's fairly easy to integrate with two factor auth, we've tied it to AD logins and yubikey tokens.

That said, I hate it with a passion and have just forced through a Cisco VPN solution for technical users (not least because I'd like a VPN I can actually use on the majority of devices without having a hunt down a friendly GUI and that I can use at all on an iphone/ipad)
