I've been trying to access my XP based pc/server.

What Remote access programs do people recommend for OSX??

Cheers and Merry Christmas

Agreed, for remote desktop / VNC type stuff then the official Microsoft client is good. Just had a look and there's a new beta version available not tried it myself yet but the older version runs fine (although this new one is a universal binary so should run better on the intel macs than the old one does.

I'm presuming the title "VPN Program??" is misleading - if not then there is a Cisco VPN client available for OSX.

i'm a bit confused as to what this thread is requesting, but what would be the most lightweight, simple way to VPN my macbook to a remote windows pc, simply for the purpose of being on the same network to allow filesharing and lan gaming facilities?

i always used to use hamachi on windows, but obviously since i'm now on mac, i need something that will run on the mac and on the windows machine of who i want to connect to... is this correct?

sorry to bring up an old thread but, i have a similar problem, i'm trying to remote desktop into my computer at work, using Microsofts Remote Desktop for Mac, however I need to create a VPN in order to do this, Hamish said that OS X has VPN built in, but I can't find it :S

any ideas where they are hiding it?

cheers

but remote desktop software is different to vpn software isn't it... i was asking what the best cross compatible vpn software is for sharing files and playing games?

I think you need to state clearly what you want to do. As VPN software doesn't do this. Also XP doesn't have VPN Server.

Do you just need to be able to access a fileshare on an XP based box or are you looking to take control of the XP box remotely. These are two different things.

would like some software with the same functionality as hamachi, in that two (or more) individuals load up hamachi, then the computers behave as if they're on the same network, i.e. they show up as a network resource, you can play against them with lan games etc...

hamachi was a great little app with a small footprint and something small and efficient for mac would be nice, thats what i was asking about :)
