I've got a Asus RT-N66U and would like to set up OpenVPN on it. Once I have set up OpenVPN on the router do I then have to pay for a service so it will connect? All this is new to me so please treat me gently :)

What are you wanting achieve? To be able to VPN into your home router when you're not at home, or use your router as a VPN client to connect to a hosted VPN service?

Mainly the 1st option but it would also be handy to browse anonymously ;)

Well then there's two answers.

To use the RT-N66U as an OpenVPN server, you need to enable this in the GUI, and then export a config file. Use this config file on whichever device you're connecting from using the OpenVPN software.

As for browsing anonymously, just sign up to one of the many VPN providers and install their software on whichever device you want to browse anonymously from. I don't use a VPN to browse so I can't recommend a VPN service, however a quick search on this forum and Google should point you in the right direction.

Thanks, that makes more sense to me now. I'll be connecting to OpenVPN via my android tablet. I'll have a look round for a VPN provider if I need one.
