Hi guys. I firstly installed ghost vpn and then also tried nord. I installed on pixel 7 and Android tv. I have a 120 mbps connection and on my tv i had drastic slowdown. 120 normally but dropping to 8/9 mbps. Ghost vpn was a bit better but not by much. If i then went on my phone and did a speed test with either vpn switched on my phone, no issue, good speeds. Do u know what could be wrong on my android tv? Many thanks

I just did a test and got 114 Mbps (wirelessly). Its not allowing me to post the pic....

Sorry I'd assumed it was cabled in rather than using WiFi. As Chris mentioned it's likely a resourcing issue, you might be better off setting up the router on a VPN so everything uses it.

What would be the best way to do this? I am with virgin uk fibre and their hub 2 router, as i understand, will not allow a vpn to be installed on it. many thanks

Something like a Draytek would likely do it or Mikrotik. UniFi Dream products have recent had this added on too.

Pretty much any up to date Asus router will run a VPN. My Zen wifi Pro ET12 is running Nord VPN as i type, it's easy to turn the VPN on and off when you want to as well.

Thanks guys. So im pretty technical but just getting into vpns. I guess the way to go is put my virgin 3.0 hub (corrected from 2.0) into router mode, connect/buy a router that will allow me to install a vpn on it. a. Can you pls recommend a reasonably priced router that would allow me to install a vpn pls? b. Can i set up a few wifi hotspots on it, e.g. one without a vpn for my work laptop, as i assume if i put my virgin hub in router mode i wont be able to use wifi from it directly....many thanks

You mentioned Ghost Vpn did you mean cyberghost?

There's a few different VPN protocols i've noticed that openvpn is on the slower side

Wireguard can usually provide faster speeds than other protocols but CyberGhost only offers wireguard via the app and you cannot export the config to use on a router

OpenVPN is pretty slow even if you have the raw cpu grunt or hardware offloading.

If you can find a solution that uses Wireguard it is significantly quicker.

Also, what are your objectives?

Security, Speed, Privacy?

Some might argue Wireguard isnt a privacy focused solution as servers will know and temporarily store your public IP. NordVPN offer NordLynx for Wireguard based privacy solutions if you are that tinfoil hat.

If you just want a different endpoint then you can throw privacy to the wind and just get on the Wireguard bandwagon.

Also, if you intend to use mobile devices on the VPN the Wireguard app is INFINTELY better than the slew of OpenVPN options available which are battery hungry, slow and buggy messes.
