I'm looking at a few VPNS.

Goldenfrog, Privateinternetaccess and Hotspot shield. All seem to provide what I want, but goldenfrog is by quite some way the most expensive. Just wondering if anyone has any personal experience of any of these.

I presume if I can actually get hold of the authentication details for my adsl connection I can just connect to it directly from the router thus giving my entire network a "Uk" ip address?

Ghost VPN has special on at the moment £4 or £15 if you want premium which is for 12 months might be worth it.

You need a router which supports the feature, I take it your using a adsl modem/router all in one?

A VPN and your broadband details are 2 separate things. You still need to connect to your DSL provider from your router. The question you need to ask, does your router support site to site VPNs? (which is not the same as VPN pass through). This is a fairly enterprise level feature.

I bookmarked NordVPN a while back. Might be of interest? I've not used it though.

P.s. I hope things are going well in France.

No I meant that I can get the router to connect to the broadband and then VPN at the same time, rather than having to use software on my PCs (One goal behind this is to get the iplayer on the TV working and I obv can't run software on that).

Right, site to site VPN is something I need to look at then, what routers support it? I haven't yet bought a router (my current one is cable so was looking to buy one for ADSL), because I'm still not sure I'm able to get my authentication details. So any suggestions? I guess I'm looking at something quite expensive..?

From a privacy point of view a normal VPN still goes to your home router IP address so that wouldn't really hide any activity would it? I do like the idea of added security but its getting a UK IP address thats key.

France is going well ta :).

You can set up VPN in pretty much any mid to high end router, so your entire traffic going through that router is automatically using the VPN, rather than you using the software on each PC.

VPNs work by encrypting all the traffic, so just as long as you can trust the company supplying the service then privacy isn't an issue.

I use PIA, not only is it one of the last truly private VPNs but the price and selection of servers is incredible.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with them. Just a case of which adsl router to get.

Was looking at the adsl equiv of my cable router, the rt66nu.

Unless you have an extremely poor connection most (all?) consumer routers won't manage to keep up with the encryption in real time. You'll end up slowing significantly. I'd strongly suggest connecting from each device individually using software, or building a proper pfSense router yourself with beefy specs.

PIA are OK but woeful at customer service, tech support and communication. Just see their forum (run by customers for customers, essentially) to see what I mean. They're also USA based, so it depends how much you trust the NSA and PIA...

Goldenfrog (Giganews/VyprVPN) keep logs.

Hotspot Shield also keep logs afaik.

CyberGhost keep logs.

AirVPN doesn't keep any activity logs, is truly private and actually has decent tech support and active open source development. It is a little more expensive than PIA though (still only a few euros a month).

You pays your money.... etc...

I have access to decent hardware so suppose I could build a pfsense router. Not overly keen on doing so I have to say.

Just read up on AirVPN, looks really good. The status pages on their website is a nice touch, something more sleek and enthusiast user friendly than most services

Heard good news about PIA but haven't tried it yet. I was a fan of Hotpotshield, tried their free trial but its making my computer system slow so I got Cyberghost instead.

I've been testing Airvpn for a few days and am happy so far. Will try PIA in a bit and see if there is any difference.
