Having a bit of a hard time with a pair of Draytek 2950 Routers in branch offices connecting to an SBS2003 box located in a data centre.

These have been working using PPTP VPN for well over a year. However in the last couple of days VPN throughput just appears to stop after about 35 minutes, although the connection is shown as being up at both ends there is no traffic passing over the VPN, if I manually drop the connection at the client end or restart routing and remote access on the server it all comes alive for another 35 minutes before dying again.

Help greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the server event logs? The fact restarting a service on the server fixes the issue on both routers simultaniously would suggest that it's the common point of failure that's to blame, that being the SBS box.

Unfortunately for me there's nowt in the event logs, I am now looking at the server as the main culprit though.

Finally found the issue.

Called the hosting company where the sbs server is co-located and found that they'd upgraded their routers last week. The guy was kind enough to check their settings and there it was PPTP set to time out after 30 minutes.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Jim
