Hi All,

Yet another VPN problem!

We've got a Netgear Prosafe DGFV338 that I am trying to set up so I can connect to it remotely. For the last two hours I've been trying various things to get it to work but I keep getting error 800. Vista says that the router cant open a PPTP connection.

Any ideas, or a walk through guide on how to get it going?

Could you give a bit more detail about the setup?

You have the prosafe with PPTP enabled and configured, with a static IP?

You're then trying to connect to it over the internet from a Vista client?

The router has a static external IP address. I went through the VPN wizard on there and set it up to respond to requests from clients and added the IP address that I have here. I have unblocked ports.

I cant see any mention of PPTP on the router itself.

Could it be that the network I am connecting to is 192.168.1.x and mine is 172.16.1.X?

Sounds like you've set up an IPSEC connection instead. Double check the documentation, you may need to install the netgear vpn client

Alternatively, if you're using a netgear at home (most of them support this, even the common as much DG834) you could set up a site to site VPN between them, no client necessary
