I bascially want to use a VPN so that my brother and myself can play online gaming.

Face of mankind and a few other games uses a stupid system where it restricts you to one gaming IP at a time in the same household, and was advised to use a VPN so that we are issued a different IP.

Ive had a look around and found hidemyass.com is this safe?

I've always wondered if public VPN's are safe, arnt all people who use the service issued the same IP?

If they were issued the same IP how would someone be able to track the actual person if they did something illegal such as downloading via torrents and couldnt the wrong user get in trouble??

Cheers!

The safest VPNs are perhaps in Sweden where VPN providers such as http://mullvad.net/en/services.php ( they also have software to cut you off if your vpn drops) Mullvad also use OpenVPN as this does not allow IPv6/Teredo to allow personal info to escape - see:

Darknet also use OpenVPN http://www.darknetvpn.com/
Naturally no records are kept of activity so would be unable to supply any for who ever asked.
Ipredator give details of overcoming the problems with IPv6:

Naturally all thru traffic is encrypted
The Australian Government have a banned list one of the banned being the site of a Tasmanian dentist

All depends on whether your endpoint routes out via multiple IPs.

If your endpoint has the same IPs for all ongoing traffic (which seems likely) you still have one IP for both your connections over one VPN.

Why would you want to use a VPN to enable you and your brother to play games online ?

makes no sense.

Read the OP, the game he and his brother plays restricts you to one IP at a time so as it stands it's not possible for them both to be using the same internet connection.
