VPU recover

I recently upgraded my computer so it is currently running:

XP service pack 3 32
Q6600 @2.4 no overclocking
4GB RAM (3.5 recognised)
Gigabyte DS4 board

and I recently upgraded to a Powercolour HD 4850 1GB.

Whilst playing the new crysis, every now and then the monitors switch off and VPU recover kicks in and screws the game up. Ive been watching temps for CPU and the graphics card in the ATI overdrive bit (clocks are on standard settings) and nothing seems particularly high.

I've never seen the VPU recover thing working so don't really know what causes the card to not respond or whatever or the solution, would really appreciate if somebody could give a little help as to why its doing it?

Many Thanks

Simon

Never come across that before though I`ve only recently jumped to ATI.

Do you get any error messages such as "driver x has crashed and recovered"? If so, it would maybe point to the drivers.

Have you got plenty beef in your PSU?

I was using drivers 8.9 without problem and now the latest beta ones.

Is it just in Crysis?

VPU recover is actually a very good option cause it resets your graphics if it stops responding otherwise your pc will hang and needs rebooting.try disabling vpu recover and play.Try to increase the fan speed of your card if its overheating mine is set at 70%.

Thanks for replies, the PSU is a new antec neopower 550W, I have checked connections and everything seems fine.

I have tried disabling the VPU and what VPU recover stops from happening happens, and I have to do a full restart.

How do I increase fan speed? Couldn't see that in the catalyst software.

Thanks
