Ok I'm returning to the uk soon and will be getting a tax refund after being abroad for the last 18 months. As such I'm starting to look at a new PC and thinking about a Vive or Oculus.

Can anyone who where glasses give an impression? My left eye is much much stronger than my right even with my glasses I strongly favour it to the point that 3D TVs and movies barely work for me with me getting short bursts of 3D and mainly no effect.

I would pop round to OCUK and give it a try but it's a hell of a long trip from Korea and even when I'm back in the uk it's not exactly a trip down the road.

I wear glasses and both the Vive and Rift fit just fine. I'm not wearing small glasses either. I wear fairly large-rimmed geek glasses.
If you can't perceive 3D at the cinema then it's unlikely that you will perceive it in VR either. However, you will still get everything else such as a sense of presence. VR is more than just the 3D effect.

Glasses are fine with either. Some other VR devices have diopter adjustment but not these two. Those are the ones that project light onto your retina rather than showing you a picture on a display.

I wear glasses and have used a Vive extensively over the last couple weeks and I can say it's very comfortable to wear and my glasses don't get in the way.

My experience with the Rift is that my glasses were totally comfortable, I didn't notice any difference in terms of comfort as to when not wearing the Rift.
What I did find is the the edge of my small glasses lenses was more noticeable especially if I moved my eyes upwards where I would see the portion of the view not covered by my glasses which was therefore very blurry. Also if your glasses are not very clean you will notice that more, and glasses means you have two pairs of lenses that can steam up from your breath.

Glasses are fine for most people but "My left eye is much much stronger than my right even with my glasses" which I assume the people above didn't read can cause a problem. Try a unit before buying.

well, nercoing my old thread, I'm back in the UK now just waiting for the taxman to give my all the lovely money he owes me. once he does I will be getting a new pc for sure.

I'm still undecided on a VR headset but I think I will head up to OCUK and check one out before I buy it, id rather drive all that way than spend a ton on something I cant get on with. Especially as the new price is even more frightening that before.

You could try one of the cheap standalone units. Some of the budget VR headsets costs £70 or less. Those look fine for VR videos just not enough power for VR games.

Similar position to OP, only the stronger effects work in 3D cinema. Just bought a cardboard to test as some mates are getting a Vive and wondered if it will be a waste of time for me.

Tried a couple of 3D apps on cardboard and it works. Not sure if it works as well for me as other people but it works well enough to look really good and probably take a leap into full VR at some point.

So my advice is if you have a 5.5 inch smart phone buy a cardboard for a fiver and try that.

I too have a dominate eye, the right eye is weaker. I do wear glasses but only for reading. I have had demos of the Vive, but glasses were not needed, because your eyes are so close to the 2 oled displays, and you can adjust the focus. The views were crisp and clear, and as well as the VR, I did get a real sense of 3D depth, more so than watching 3D on a TV or at the cinema. Not sure why that is, maybe because VR is so immersive the 3D aspect is more natural.
