Im looking in a couple of months time to get back into sim racing and rebuild my sim rig but this time instead of triples it will be with a VR headset.
I know the majority of people use the Rift, but as I'm so late to the VR party should I consider getting something newer tech with better ress? And if I did win the lottery and went mad and bought something like the vive pro would that make and difference to the Rift when it came to it being supported by sim game, I racing, project cars 2 ,, asset to etc.
Also i will have to buy a new gpu as currently have none and remember reading something about the new 2080 nvidia cards having some vr port or something ??? What is that again ??

Not something to be concerned with right now...

There's no difference in sim compatibility with the various headsets.

It really depends on your available budget as to what you go for (obviously). In your shoes and considering that you won't be doing it for a couple of months, I'd wait and see what the Pimax 5k+ pre-order price is gonna be. You'll also have to budget in for a Valve lighthouse/base station to use it. Should only need one if it's just for seated sim stuff.
Sweet thanks for the info, any idea of the release date or pre order date for the 5k + as just watched a review video on it and seems good, mind you looks like you want a 2080ti for it as the video I seen the guy had an I 8700k and a 1080ti and he was getting 45fps in project cars 2.

That's not such a terrible thing unless you're very sensitive to it, or refuse anything less than 90fps on principle.
Many people (including me) are perfectly happy to use graphics settings and supersampling that result in a locked 45fps in race sims and can't even tell the difference between that and 90 as long as the framerate's not jumping around. YMMV.

That video also didn't state what settings he was using.

As for the pre-order date, all I know is that it should be within the next month or so, as the headset itself is finalised and being reviewed as you saw.

OR, you could just grab a Rift and beefy GPU. I just suggested the 5k+ as it's newer/better and you mentioned newer tech and better res alternatives to something that's been out a while and is getting on a little - great as it is.
Wow just watched bits n pieces of this mega indepth review, think I'm sold on the 5k+
