I just want the best VR for watching movies. No need for features, games, head tracking, etc... Either watching when sitting on the coach or lying down in bed.

Anything out there that's designed for this?

No. I meant the actual hardware, not the software. Which one is best for watching 3D movies?

The gearVR will do it. Cheap as chips compared to the vive or rift.
But it does also mean getting a newer samsung phone on contract to go with it.

Mate tried it and its not pleasant.

The headset is quite uncomfortable for wearing for such a long period.
Then the resolution is just very poor.

What are others opinions on this...?

I wouldn't say the resolution is very poor but certainly don't expect monitor type quality until it matures in years to come.

I was'nt expecting pc type resolution. Just that films look unclear at current resolutions the VIVE and CV1 have.

Tbh I've watched quite a few 3d movies on my GearVR and it's not a terrible experience tbh, the low resolution is its biggest downfall but for the most part I'd recommend it. Did take me 2 sittings to watch Avatar though, had to have a break after 2 hours lol. It really isolates you with the movie, you can't look at your phone or browse the net or anything -- it's just you and the movie. Good if you're watching a good movie, terrible if you're watching something subpar (looking at you Gravity)
