VR recording (shadow play)

Hello! Been googling around but cant find a solution. When I record my gameplay using shadow play, the image comes out at a really odd looking aspect ratio (very stretched looking).

I have just upgraded from a 980ti to a 1080ti (the 980ti gave me regular looking 16:9 videos from the left eye perspective). I've looked in steam vr and nvidia control panel settings but cant find anything obvious. How do I get regular 16:9 videos from VR?

AFAIK shadowplay just records the desktop mirror, which as you say is a cropped view of the left eye, game dependent (eg the score overlay on robo recall). What's mirrored on your desktop?
