Vr thermal alert

Trying to oc my i7-4790k. 46 multiplier and 1.25 voltage. When i stress test, the clock speeds drop. temps stay under 80c on the cpu. HWinfo sensors shows "Vr thermal alert". Is this vrm overheating? Any way to combat it? Motherboard is asus h81-plus.

Most likely the vrm's overheating as they have no heatsinks at all plus they will not be very good quality on a low end board that is produced down to a price. How are you overclocking on a H81 board anyway? You need a Z series board for overclocking.

Yeah its a old budget build, my friend handed me down the cpu a while back. The overcloking works just as any other board as far as im aware.
