So after now having my Vive Cosmos about 4 months, i want to upgrade it. Main reason being DCS and FOV, now i know we've got the G2 coming around, but i have been looking at other options.

Pimax 5k+, Reverb and the index.

Any recommendations? Yes i know i could wait for the G2 but if i don't well i don't :P.

Btw i haven't found the cosmos overly bad, tracking is pretty good for sims, screen isn't as bad as some make out, yes it has niggles but nothing near as bad as some people have made out.

Thanks for the help folks!

If it helps my system is

8086k running at 5/5.2
msi 2080 super trio version
32gb at 3600(ty 8pack)
2 x 500gb M2
2x 500gb ssd

don't go near Pimax, its basically 50/50 on whether the headset will work at all for you, their support is by far the worst I've ever experienced and it only comes with a 1 year warranty - they are so busy releasing new headsets all the time that they won't even repair old ones for a fee, so whatever you spend on it will be bricked as soon as it develops a fault (which is incredibly likely as their cases start cracking in a few months of light use)

I've had a 5k+ and 8kx and the colours were awful, everything was so grey it was like every game had severe fog

G2 has best resolution, Index has best field of view and refresh, thems your choices at the moment

or you could try the gear lens mod on your cosmos

Index is the best all-rounder (apart from the lens glare), G2 is the best for sims.

Important to note the G2 doesn't have capacitive touch on the contollers, so no finger tracking or gestures, which for some experiences is quite immersion breaking.

That may not be a big deal though if you want to primarily play sims, or if you're not fussed about the feature.

You can use index controllers with a G2 if its that much of a deal breaker.

Its between the G2 and the Index.

I found the Index controllers incredible so I'd have to reccomend that as going back to my touch controllers (which I believe are better than the G2 ones due to capacitive touch) is very difficult.

Pimax is way way way too expensive with way way way too much work to get it working consistently. Also if you run into hardware issues, you are in for a life of pain.

How well does that work? I've seen posts suggesting that getting it working, and keeping it working isn't simple (on top of the extra expense and hassle of sourcing USB dongles).

I've not tried it yet - have an OG Vive and have ordered a G2 so if the G2 controllers give me hassle I can try both - a quick look on ebay and the dongles don't seem to be expensive

Cool, will be interested to find out. I've got an Index, but it's always good to have options to migrate to a different headset if it's better. If the G2 can reliably use the Index controllers, then it'd be a real all-round contender.

There should be no problem using the Index controllers on the G2/G1. Other than the hassle of setting it all up and that you need the light houses and the Steam USB dongles.

The index is what want to get after the Cosmos that I currently use. I didn't like the Cosmos that much at first but now prefer it to the Rift S. I think that the Index will still overall be better than the G2 but we'll see. I hope when the G2 releases, the Index gets a price drop.

the index headset (alone) is already cheaper than the G2, its the controllers and base stations that make it more expensive, they both have trade offs and the index is still back ordered at least 8 weeks

If you’re too impatient to wait for the G2 then I don’t think the Index is for you as current wait times are around 13 weeks.

I looked at doing the mod for the Odyssey plus, valve tracking is supposed to be fine when setup but what they don't mention is the drug that happens over time and most had to re-set up the room scale every time they used it.
Never got around to trying it as I sold the o+ just before I bought the last controller. (As I had the lighthouses it seemed easier just too buy an index)

Having used the index overall it's fine clarity bis excellent in the sweet spot but the lens flare is awful and the sweet spot is small although not as bad as the o+.
Every headset seems to have a comprise still I think the G2 will to, tracking being the main one.
I'm hoping valve will release a lens upgrade for the index but more likely it will be an index 2 which will use the same panels and lens as the hp.
